As we head into the new school year, it’s time to take cues from that fount of wisdom that is pop culture. After starring in the definitive high school movie of the modern era (“Mean Girls,” duh) we decided to draw inspiration from the ouvre of Lindsay Lohan.
While we wouldn’t recommend that you take all of Lohan’s fictional or real-life choices to heart, here are nine tips, both big (follow your heart!) and small (uh, watch out!) to keep in mind as you hit the halls for the coming school year.
1. Embrace your flaws
As she says in “Life Size,” perfect gives us a serious case of the zzzs.
2. It never hurts to check in to your chill zone
When you’re freaking out, just take your cues from “Freaky Friday.”
3. A little choreographed dancing can go a long way
When in doubt, dance it out, “Mean Girls” style. The worst that could happen is that someone will get hit in the face with a boom box.
4. Be friendly!
Really! Say hi! You never know who you might meet.
5. Don’t be shy!
Do you, loud and proud, “Life Size”-style. If they don’t like it, well, you don’t need to befriend them anyway.
6. Remember that high school isn’t everything.
Just check the lyrics to “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” — you can grow up from a wannabe to a star.
7. Hair grows back.
Thinking about changing up your style for the new year? Go for it! As we learned in T”he Parent Trap,” a few inches can make all the difference, and even if that difference isn’t great…well, it’ll grow back.
8. Forgive and forget.
Holding onto that grudge will only hold you back, as “Georgia Rule” taught us.
9.Always watch where you’re going
It sounds simple, but we can’t actually stress this one enough. After all, you don’t want to fall into a trash can, a la “Mean Girls.”
