This Bartender Got The Tip Of A Lifetime From A Stranger

A bartender in North Carolina got the surprise of a lifetime when a generous stranger signed off on a $1,000 tip for his $14 tab.

Chrisi Kemp, who works at the One Whirled Café in Wake Forest, made eye contact with a passerby through the restaurant’s window, and he decided to come inside for a couple of drinks on his way home from the grocery store. After spending just $14.01, the customer casually added a grand to his credit card receipt.

At first, Kemp couldn’t believe what she was looking at. “I looked down and was shocked. I said, ‘You don’t have to do that,’” she told TODAY.com. “And he said, ‘Do you need it? Well, then keep it.’ … I didn’t know if I was going to cry or what.”

Kemp had been experiencing financial troubles recently, needing to pay medical bills for her sick 5-year-old daughter, but she didn’t mention them to the customer while the two made conversation during his visit to the café.

At first, she tried to refuse the tip, but the man insisted that she accept it. The $1,000 tip came from a place of pure generosity — the customer, who asked to stay anonymous, mentioned that he believes in karma.

Kemp passed her good luck along right away, sharing the tip with two of her co-workers who waited tables on the same night.

After waiting tables for 16 years, Kemp finally hit the kindness jackpot. Sometimes you just get lucky.
