If you haven’t heard someone compare Ariana Grande to Mariah Carey by now, you must be living under a rock. (Apologies to all the rock-dwelling insects out there. I know it’s not your fault.) But, how does the “Break Free” singer feel about these comparisons?
As it turns out, she’s totally cool with them. “Mariah has been a huge influence on me since I was a little girl,” Ariana told Us Weekly on Wednesday (October 1). “I’ve even done a cover of one of her songs.” She’s referring to this flawless cover of Mimi’s 1991 classic, “Emotions.”
Grande continued: “I don’t think there are any negatives to being compared to one of the greatest vocalists of all time. It’s honestly a great honor.”
You see? No diva-on-diva rivalry or behind-the-scenes feuding here. It’s just like Taylor Swift said on French-Canadian show “Tout Le Monde En Parle” earlier this week: “I think when it comes to females in the media, you’ll see something that kind of upsets me, which is that females are pinned up against each other, more so than men.”
Besides, any Arianator worth her high ponytail knows that the “Problem” singer has no, um, problem with being compared to Ms. Carey. Back at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, Ariana told “Access Hollywood” that it’s basically the “greatest compliment in the world,” adding that she’s always been a fan.
