Alexander Wang’s Boxing Gloves Join A Legacy Of High-Fashion Sports Gear

Yesterday, H&M and Alexander Wang launched their highly-coveted collaboration. The wunderkind designer/Balenciaga creative head/sneaker aficionado gave his fans exactly what they wanted: a collaboration that looks like it could have walked down the runway for his namesake line. It reads as a reprisal of the designer’s sportiest hits. This being Alexander Wang—the man who invented the 15-pound bucket bag and brought back the style—the accessories were all on-point. But one of them stood out more than others: a pair of logo-centric boxing gloves—the type of fashionable whim you’d only expect to see on the runway or in a lookbook.

Yet, Wang isn’t the only designer to put a spin on sporting goods. Though he’s been doing it now for seasons, having also created a $135 gold-tipped jump rope, yoga mats, and pool toys—in all black, of course—Wang’s love of sports is shared by his contemporaries. Here are some of the most luxurious sporting goods on the market.

Louis VuittonHarper’s Bazaar

King of absurdity Karl Lagerfeld recently made headlines for one of his most outlandish moves yet—and that’s saying a lot—a Louis Vuitton punching bag. No it’s not a punch line (heh), his monogrammed leather device that’s used for hitting repeatedly will set you back $175,000.

At Chanel, Lagerfeld has come up with endless ways to brand the fashion house’s double C logo. Grocery carts, the contents of an entire supermarket, and a ton of sporting equipment to help you burn off the calories after digging to the bottom of a pint of Chanel ice cream. If you belong to the one-percent, you can ski, play tennis, bicycle, toss around a football, shoot hoops, play ping pong, lift dumbbells, ride a surfboard à la Beyonce, and even throw a boomerang—that are all made by the Paris fashion house.

Hermes is also in the business of turning people with too much money on their hands into walking jokes. The brand who’s brought you the $91,500 crocodile t-shirt, followed up that insane creation with a bright blue leather basketball that’s priced at $12,900. No, that doesn’t come with a personal basketball coach for a lifetime.
