Hours after a video emerged of Justin Bieber urinating in a mop bucket and directing a verbal jab at former President Bill Clinton at a club in New York City, the 19-year-old pop singer is trying to mend fences.
The video first appeared online Wednesday and quickly became viral. In it, Bieber was videotaped relieving himself into a mop bucket of the nightclub’s kitchen. Later, someone referred to Bieber and his entourage as “wild kidz.” Then Bieber is caught spraying a liquid at a photograph of Clinton and shouting “F— Bill Clinton.” In the wake of the headline-making clip, which was reportedly shot earlier this year at an undisclosed hot spot, the superstar has spoken to the former president.
Late Wednesday evening, he wrote, “@billclinton thanks for taking the time to talk Mr. President. Your words meant alot. #greatguy.”
Bieber is currently traveling the country on his Believe tour and thanked his fans on Twitter in between stops for their “kind words” in the wake of the controversy, noting that he’s “grateful” by the opportunities he’s been given. “In life u will make mistakes and people will try and tear u down…but u gotta stay positive. Stay strong..and learn to be better..and.. always live to serve others and The Lord,” he tweeted.
The singer is slated to drop new music by the year’s end and his manager, Scooter Braun, spoke to MTV News earlier this month about how the new music, billed as his “music journal,” will end the “witch hunt” Bieber has received in the press.
“So we’re hoping the witch hunt [is] gonna end when he really just speaks for himself in the music,” he said. “And we’re gonna do it in a way that’s very, very unique, so when you see ‘Heartbreaker,’ know it’s coming directly from him and don’t think [of] the normal ‘Oh this is my single and this is going to be on the album’ [rollout], realize there’s gonna be a very unique way of how this music is going to be released unlike we’ve seen before from him.”
There is no confirmed release date yet for the album or its first single, “Heartbreaker,” but Braun has made it clear that the words fans and critics hear will be straight from Justin. “You know he wants to show growth, but he wants to speak for himself,” he said.
