Kanye: North Made Me See Taylor Swift Incident Differently

With the words “I’ma let you finish” still fresh in just about everyone’s minds, it’s easy to forget that it’s been four years since Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards. But it seems that between settling down in a serious relationship with Kim Kardashian and having a daughter, he’s changed a lot in that time period.

In an hourlong interview with Kris Jenner — one that he used to debut the first-ever photo of his baby, North West — he opened up about how the birth of his baby girl and his loving relationship with Kim have “transformed” him.

“The last thing I would want to happen to my daughter is some crazy drunk black guy in a leather shirt to come up and cut her off at an awards show,” Kanye said. “That’s the last thing I’d want.”

Just a couple months ago, Kanye told The New York Times that no one should expect an apology about the 2009 incident, and even admitted that the regretted the “backhanded apology” he gave on 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

And while no sorrys were said during Friday’s sit-down, Kanye made it clear that he has changed.

“I was just a crazy rockstar,” Kanye told Kris of his 2009 self. He went on to say that his past slip-ups have only helped him become a better person. “Anything considered a ‘mistake’ will help me make better decisions in the future.”

But just because he’s matured, that doesn’t mean Kanye won’t be Kanye when her returns to the VMA stage this Sunday. He’s slated to perform his Yeezus hit “Black Skinhead” as part of an A-list lineup that includes Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.
