It’s been a decade since Britney Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera shared that famous kiss during the VMAs back in 2003. And that moment hasn’t lost any of its awe-inspiring luster in the years since. In fact, a new crop of pop princesses, including VMA-nominated Selena Gomez, are still dazzled by that unforgettable moment.
“Yes! That’s amazing! I think I was 11. I was exactly 11 years old,” she recalled about seeing the performance, which included Britney and Xtina dressed up as brides, joined by Madge done up like a groom, and all three singing Madonna’s 1984 hit “Like a Virgin” before transitioning into “Hollywood.” Post-kiss, they were also joined by Missy Elliott.
Of course, it wasn’t the medley that had everyone buzzing that year — and all these years later — but the fact that Brit, Christina and Madonna kissed right there on live TV from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Britney-phile Gomez added, “I am obsessed with Britney. I loved everything about it. I was obsessed. I was into it.”
So, if Gomez got the call to put on a similar performance with Spears, would she take her up on the offer? “Um, yes! I’m just gonna be real … yes!” she responded.

Gomez is slated to appear at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. She’s up for Best Song of the Summer, where she’s competing against One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” (currently sitting at #1) and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” (at #2). Gomez’s “Come & Get It” is currently at #3 in the competition, beating out Daft Punk (“Get Lucky”), Robin Thicke (“Blurred Lines”) and Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding (“I Need Your Love”). The singer is also up for Best Pop Video for “Come & Get It.” The VMAs go live from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 25.
