On their first album they wanted you Up All Night, their second asked you to Take Me Home and now, One Direction are going to make some Midnight Memories.
On Friday (September 6) the group announced that their third album, Midnight Memories, will be released November 25.
Niall Horan gave fans the heads up when he tweeted that the band would have an “an exciting album announcement.”
Shortly after, Zayn Malik tweeted a five-second teaser with Harry Styles assembling a pile of letters spelling out “Mid,” which had Directioners already deciphering the name. Not long after, an Instagram video showed Styles completing the puzzle, giving two thumbs up and proudly showing off the full name, which left fans ecstatic. “@zaynmalik @Harry_Styles wHAT OHMGDHSD GOESBSH,” @hausofniall tweeted, while Shimlas_Bfd added, “@zaynmalik @Harry_Styles hey guys we look forward to hearing #MidnightMemories #OneDirection.”
While Up All Night, was filled with pop hits about being young and in love, the guys incorporated more of a rock element on Take Me Home. That more “rock-y” direction is one they’re continuing on Midnight Memories.
“[It’s a] very rock direction,” Payne told MTV News recently. “We actually spent a lot of time writing this album. We’re very proud of it, so we can’t wait for it to come out. … But it’s very different so we are hoping people will kind of adjust to the music with us.”
Payne recently revealed that the guys were heavily involved in the production process of their third album, writing 10 of the tracks. They teamed up with the same songwriting and production team that worked on their previous efforts, including Julian Bunetta.
Back in July, One Direction released the first single for the record, “Best Song Ever,” which went on to take home the fan-voted Best Song of the Summer Award at the 2013 Video Music Awards.
Midnight Memories will be available for pre-order Monday.
