After weeks of anticipation and Twitter teases, Britney Spears debuted her new single ‘Work Bitch’ on Sunday (September 15) afternoon.
The dance track, co-written by will.i.am and Swedish House Mafia DJ Sebastian Ingrosso , is the lead single off of the princess of pop’s upcoming album, a follow up to 2011’s Femme Fatale.
In the song, an energetic dance track, Spears encourages her audience to ‘get to work bitch’ by listing a series of enviable luxuries. “You wanna hot body / You want a Bugatti / You wanna maseratti / You better work bitch!”
The EDM influence is apparent; the song blends heavy synth with a strong bass. Behind the beat is Otto Knows, the 24-year-old Swedish DJ who is managed by Ingrosso.
Originally slotted to debut on Monday night (September 16), Spears was forced to bump up the release date after a low-quality version of the song leaked online. Early on Sunday morning, Spears took to Twitter to share her disappointment that the version online wasn’t the real deal. “Woke up today and saw that a low quality version of Work Bitch had leaked :(,” was quickly followed by the announcement that I Heart Radio and Radio.com would be premiering the official version at 3 PM EST, over 24 hours earlier than planned.
Following the official premiere, the track was posted to Spears’ official Vevo page and Britney then informed fans they would be able to get their hands on the song sooner than expected, tweeting “Just got word that #WORKBxxCH is going to be on @iTunesMusic tonight at 12:01am ET! Who is staying up late w/ me?!”
