Britney Spears may be bummed that she had to rush-release “Work Bitch” a day early because a low-quality version of the song leaked over the weekend. But her fans could not be more excited about the thumping dance track co-written by will.i.am., Spears and Anthony Preston with a beat from Otto Knows, a 24-year-old Swedish DJ managed by former Swedish House Mafia member Sebastian Ingrosso.
“When it comes to real POP, no one matches Britney!!! Workbitch,” wrote fan Carolina about the song with the brainworm hook, “You wanna hot body/You want a Bugatti/You wanna Maserati/You better work bitch!”
In addition to comments like “fierce!!!!!” and “AMAZING SONG, YOU BETTA WORK” on MTV’s site, the reaction on Spears’ Twitter account was, well, fierce.
“‘Work Bitch’ will slay the charts!!!” tweeted superfan Enrique, who added “‘Work Bitch = #1.” After Spears announced that the song would be available immediately on iTunes, a follower named Work Bitch! couldn’t buy it fast enough. “I just did it! Your new song is A M A Z I N G!,” she wrote. “I’m soooo proud of u Brit.”
Katie was on the same train, writing, “JUST DOWNLOADED 10 TIMES #WORKBxxCHoniTunes,” she wrote. “BECAUSE I LOVE BRITNEY.” RJ Calderon already thinks the thumping track is the year’s best. “The biggest hit of 2013 is here!” he wrote. “Thank you for this amazing song! Non-stop dancing! Spread the word!”
Spears was overjoyed by the response to the song with heavy EDM influence. “I am truly overwhelmed and so grateful for all of your support,” she said Sunday night. “The Britney Army is amazing. I may have teared up a little …. I <3 you.”
At press time “Work Bitch” was sitting at #6 on the iTunes singles chart, which is being dominated by pop’s biggest female voices, including Lady Gaga (#5), Lorde (#3), Katy Perry (#2) and Miley Cyrus (#1).
