‘Prisoners’ Star Jake Gyllenhaal Spills On His First Kiss: Who’s The ‘Very Special’ Girl?

Long before he was Jake Gyllenhaal the “movie star,” the actor was Camp Walt Whitman‘s self-proclaimed “canoe master.”

The 32-year-old actor opened up to MTV News about his years spent at the New England sleep-away camp, including his first kiss. Listen up!

“OK, I’ll say it: my first kiss was with Emily Simon. I’ll say it. I’ll say that right now. Well her name is Emily Simon. It was a very special moment so why wouldn’t I [say it here]; it’s respectful of both parties,” he recalled, before joking. “I was, like, very young. I’m not gonna say the age, but I was like very young. I was 28 years old, man.”

In addition to reminiscing about Emily, he also recalled Kit Kats and Snickers being his candies of choice and that he had a part in the camp’s production of “The Music Man.”

This week, Gyllenhaal is back on the big screen. And although his “Music Man” days are behind him, he’s starring in the Denis Villeneuve-directed thriller, “Prisoners.” He previously told MTV News about how he chooses his acting projects these days.

“It is a mystery in a way. I’ve had this privilege of being able to act since I was very young. I had this long career. I’m at the age where I think most of my contemporaries are beginning their career,” he said. “I think of it in the same way. I think of it as a beginning too, understanding who you are as a man, understanding who you are as an artist or whatever you do in your life.”

He continued, “At a certain time in your life you start to say, ‘Yeah, that moves me. I’m into that.’ You trust your instinct. I think all of those instincts become honed. There are a lot of things I’m not afraid of anymore. There are a lot of things that I continue to be [afraid of] and I’m trying to look at.”

Current and former Camp Walt Whitman campers take note, Gyllenhaal’s latest flick, “Prisoners,” hits theaters this Friday.
