Snoop Is Now Snoopzilla For Funk Album, But What’s His Country Name? Snoop Possum?

There was a time when Snoop Dogg was the baddest rapper in the land, but after 20-plus years, it looks as if the Long Beach MC just wants some variety. Earlier this year, the D-O-double G, dropped his debut reggae LP under his Snoop Lion moniker, but for his next trick, his going for something a little more funky.

On Friday (October 18), it was announced that Snoop’s next album 7 Days of Funk will be released under his new name Snoopzilla, in collaboration with producer Dam-Funk. The new tag is a throw to Parliament-Funkadelic’s Bootsy Collins, who released a single called “Bootzilla” in 1978.

Snoop has always infused funk into his music. His debut single “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)” sampled George Clinton’s “Atomic Dog,” so the idea behind this new album isn’t so foreign.

“We’re babies of the Mothership,” Snoopzilla said in a news release issued to Time.com. “I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.”

There’s no telling where Snoop can go after this, but just in case he’s looking for future inspiration, MTV News has come up with some genre lines he can cross and some new names he can adopt.

Country: Snoop Possum, Sticky-Icky Shotguns
Snoop has already dabbled in country with his good friend Willie Nelson, so an entire album shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

EDM: SnoopMau5, Medicinal Molly
Ain’t no party like a Snoop Dogg party, but if you add electro producers like Afrojack and Skrillex to the mix, clubgoers won’t leave the dance floor until 6 in the mornin’.

Classical: Beethoven, The Dogg, Beethoven’s 2nd
Snoop already has on classic album under his belt with Doggystyle, but get him behind a piano and let him rip. For an added bonus, John Hughes can direct the music videos.

Mariachi: Chihuahua Doggy Dogg, El Charro
We’re not sure why Snoop would do a mariachi album, but we weren’t sure why’d he do a hot pockets commercial either.

Indie Rock: Shaggy Dogg, Smoke Away the Pain
Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel and the Decemberists better watch out, Snoop has the #1 cure for pain. Ooooweeee.
