Ed Sheeran Teams With An All-Star, All-Fur Backup Band

It looks like Ed Sheeran has a brand-new band to back him up: The Muppets! On Thursday (October 31), the singer shared several photos on Instagram of him “hanging with his friends Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and the Cookie Monster.

A spokesperson from “Sesame Street” told MTV News that Sheeran taped an episode for their 45th season, which will air in September of 2014. Sheeran follows in a long line of celebrities who have made cameos on the show, including Justin Bieber, Usher and Beyonce. In one photo, Sheeran plays a guitar as several Muppets act as his backing band, with Elmo holding a tambourine and Grover strumming the electric guitar.

But the Muppets aren’t the only recent collaboration for Sheeran. The “Lego House” singer hooked up with Lupe Fiasco on Wednesday to film the video for their single, the lead track off Lupe’s upcoming Tetsuo & Youth album.

Sheeran is performing an intimate Halloween show at New York City’s Mercury Lounge, where just a year and a half ago he played his first New York show. And we’re hoping he’ll do the whole thing dressed like this:

Following his Halloween bash, Sheeran will continue his takeover of Madison Square Garden, performing the second of his three-gig stint at the famed arena on Friday. Earlier this week, Sheeran debuted a new song, possibly titled So In Love” to the sold-out MSG crowd. The singer admitted that the track was written after all the ‘sh–talking’ after this year’s Grammy Awards.

“1st date of MSG is today, then two more, then the two and a half year tour for this album is done,” Sheeran tweeted on Tuesday (October 29). “what a way to end it.”
