‘The Voice’ Eliminated Contestant Kat Robichaud ‘High-Fiving A Million Angels’

Tuesday’s episode of for Kat Robichaud and Austin Jenckes. The top 10 finalists found themselves eliminated from the hit reality competition. But they tell MTV News, they’re proud of their accomplishments so far.

Robichaud stood out on Team Cee Lo with her signature “Katitude” and high-flying kicks in songs like “We Belong” and “I Got the Music in Me.” The rock-and-roll powerhouse was also the first-ever recipient of a “Voice” save, which saw her spared by an instant Twitter vote. But after landing in the bottom three two weeks in a row, the KatPack just wasn’t enough to keep her around.

“The kind of weird person that I am and the weird performer that I am, I don’t fit into a mold and I’m not mainstream,” Robichaud told us of her elimination. “The show is so good to me and they really embraced who I am and who I was and, you know, they don’t have any control over the voting but they were all shocked that I was leaving.”

Coach Green was particularly upset with the results, according to Robichaud. “He was telling Caroline [Pennell, another contestant] that he was just really upset, that he didn’t understand, like, why America … wouldn’t want to pick someone as entertaining as me.”

While Robichaud struggled to “fit in” to the mainstream, Jenckes was trying to stand apart. He was one of three soul singers left on Team Blake and admitted it was “difficult to compete” with team members in the same genre.

“I really used my power and range of my voice to just stand out and also my emotion of my performances,” Jenckes told MTV News.

The emotional singer was commended several times for his ability to connect with his songs, dedicating one of his earlier performances, “Simple Man,” to his late father. “My dad taught me how to play the guitar and he gave me so much wisdom about life, and I think today he would just tell me he was proud of me. … I like to believe he did see me go through this,” Jenckes reflected.

Both Robichaud and Jenckes lost their fathers, and drew on those losses as inspiration for their journeys on the show. Although that chapter has come to a close now, both artists are eagerly looking forward to the future and hopefully collaborations with their coaches and fellow contestants.

“I’m high-fiving a million angels,” Robichaud said tearfully. “I’m proud of me, I’ve come a long way.”
