A week after his tragic death in a fiery car accident, fans of “The Fast &The Furious” star Paul Walker gathered at the location of the crash to pay tribute to the late action star.
Laying down flowers, candles, stuffed animals and notes at a makeshift memorial and staging a slow car and motorcycle rally past the spot where Walker and his friend Roger Rodas were killed on November 30, they paid their respects to the star whose films helped make car culture cool again.
According to the Los Angeles Times hundreds of devotees gathered in Valencia, California, to stage the slow motion procession through an industrial park, with many offering spray-painted messages in honor of Walker on their car windows.
In addition to the fan-led, engine revving memorial rally and car cruise, two planes flew by trailing banners that read, “R.I.P. God be with Fast and Furious star Paul Walker” and “Our Hearts go out to his Family and Friends.” The gathering combined the showmanship of a car show, with many cars parked with their hoods popped open, and a movie junket, complete with a number of the tricked-out vehicles Walker drove in the “Fast” franchise, including the Nissan Skyline from “Fast Four.”
Some fans stopped by a big-rig truck emblazoned with a giant image of Walker and Rodas that turned into a memorial canvas that they signed their names to. In addition to the Lambos and chopped VW buses in the caravan, Walker’s “Fast” co-star Rick Yune showed up to mingle with the crowd.
