Channing Tatum appears to be Mila Kunis‘ intergalactic knight in shining armor in the first trailer for The Wachowskis’ buzzed-about space drama,
The first trailer for the Warner Bros. film, opening July 25, reveals Tatum to be a “perfect hunting machine” tasked with removing Kunis’ Earth-born Jupiter Jones from the crosshairs of the Queen of the Universe. According to an official synopsis of the film, Jupiter’s “genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.”
Or, as they say in the trailer: “Some lives will always matter more than others.”
Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne also co-star in the ambitious sci-fi epic from “The Matrix” and “Cloud Atlas” filmmakers.
Earlier this year, Tatum spoke with MTV News about the challenges of filming “Jupiter Ascending.”
“It’s crazy — it’s a tough movie,” the actor said. “We’re trying to do stuff that’s never been done before, in three different aspects. We’re trying to do stuff that’s never been done in CG before, we’re doing stuff with cameras that’s never been done before, and we’re trying to do stuff with stunts — like, actual, real stuff so we don’t have to use a bunch of CGI stuff.”
Tatum is no stranger to action. Aside from showing off his, ahem, dancing skills in “Magic Mike,” Tatum has not shied away from stunt-heavy projects including “G.I. Joe” and “White House Down.” That said, the Wachowskis’ project nearly killed him.
“You have a pre-vis that has already been cartooned out to the way they want it to look, and I’m trying to match that in physicality,” he said. “It’s crushing, but when you do get it, it’s amazing. I just hope we finish the movie — because it’s killing me.”
