“The Voice” semi-finals hit the ground running Tuesday night (December 10) with some familiar faces in the wake of a tough night of competition. After an incredible live performance Monday night from the top five, it was clear the elimination of two contestants would sting.
But before the goodbyes began, the show said hello to season four alums the Swon Brothers. As the first duo to make the finals, the brothers stepped back onto their old singing ground to debut their new track “Later On,” announcing they had been signed to Arista Records. Now seasoned performers, the Oklahoma natives came “swinning,” working the crowd and even signing and giving away a guitar during the performance.
The reunion was short-lived as the show took a different approach. Instead of revealing the first save, they announced the first elimination. While Team Adam’s James Wolpert received last week’s “Voice Save,” there was no safety net available today as Carson revealed Wolpert got the lowest number of votes, thus eliminating him from the competition. “You were one of the best,” coach Levine said to the tech-nerd-turned-rocker who tried to keep it together.
In an attempt to change the mood, another season four finalist then took the stage. Team Usher’s Michele Chamuel returned with her usual flair to belt her new single “Go Down Singing.”
With four left, “Thee Voice” finally revealed its first finalist: Team Adam’s Tessanne Chin. The announce wasn’t much of a surprise as Chin delivered what Levine called the “most flawless and graceful performance” he’s ever heard on the show last night with “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
Then the stage cleared for winners past.
Team Blake remained triumphant as season four winner Danielle Bradbery followed suit performing her single “Never Like This,” from her debut album that topped the digital country album charts on iTunes. Like a proud papa, Shelton watched his young prodigy shine as she revealed she was touring with another country heavyweight Brad Paisley.
But it was time to share the wealth, and Team Christina finally felt some glory as another young’un Jacquie Lee was announced as the second top three finalist.
That left Team Blake’s Cole Vosbury and Team Adam’s Will Champlin, both of whom were stolen into their respective teams earlier in the knockout rounds.
As they say, though, what goes up must come down, and with one swift blow, three-time reigning champ Blake Shelton was knocked out of the competition as Champlin was announced the final save.
With the top three revealed, the final battle begins next week between Team Adam and Team Christina, as the hopefuls sing for the ultimate title of “The Voice.”
