‘Divergent’ Clip: Four And Tris Get Close, Real Close

Since “next YA adaptation that hits it big, there are a few things that it needs to do to win over that crowd of movie-goers. First, there has to be a female lead that doesn’t fit in and a hunky, muscular guy who will win her heart. And then they need to have a really dramatic first kiss.

Well, the upcoming adaptation of Veronica Roth’s hit novel gets all of that stuff out of the way in the first clip. Check out the video below to get straight to the good stuff. But if you’re not super familiar with the concept of factions or Dauntless or whatever the hell a “Four” is, you might be a little confused as to what happened in the clip.

In the future, society is split up into personality-based groups called factions. Upon coming of age, individuals take a test and are sorted, except for those who are Divergent. They’re the people that don’t fit so easily into the cookie cutter dystopia.

That’s what happens to our heroine Tris, played by Shailene Woodley. She doesn’t get sorted and is forced to hide among the Dauntless, a faction based on bravery, in order to survive. That’s where she meets Four (Theo James), who has a little more up his sleeve than she originally thought.

It turns out that what he has up his sleeve is a bunch of sweet back tats, but instead of letters saying “Peace” in Sanskrit or whatever like most dudes, Four sport the symbols of all the factions because he too doesn’t want to stick with one emotion.

“Divergent” opens in theaters on March 21, 2014.
