‘Frozen’ Ices Out Beyonce On Charts Again

Baby it’s cold outside, and on the charts. For the second week in a row, the soundtrack to “Frozen” has iced Beyoncé out of the top spot. After chart watchers predicted that Queen Bey would re-ascend the throne in week five of her surprise album’s reign, the snowman Olaf and his pals had other ideas, locking down the #1 slot on the Billboard 200 chart even as sales were down by nearly 50 percent.

»Cold Chillin’ At The Top
The surprise hit of the season, “Frozen,” which features songs performed by stars Josh Gad, Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, moved another 86,000 copies according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That pushes the soundtrack sales for the $318 million-grossing Disney film to just shy of 589,000 to date. Meanwhile, Beyoncé keeps chugging along, hanging at #2 on sales of 130,000, for a five week total of more than 1.5 million.

»Kid Ink Pens A Hit
Los Angeles rap rookie Kid Ink is having the time of his life, debuting at #3 with My Own Lane, which shifted 50,000 copies in its first week on the charts. With his Chris Brown-assisted hit “Show Me” blowing up the singles charts as well, Ink’s major-label debut is poised for a solid chart run during the slow winter months.

»Lorde, One Direction, Miley Cyrus Still Chillin’
In a traditionally slow period for the music industry, there were few other notable debuts on the chart, with the rest of the top 10 survivors suffering double-digit dips.

The rest of the top 10: Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (#4, 36,000, down 35 percent), Lorde, Pure Heroine (#5, 33,000, down 28 percent), One Direction, Midnight Memories (#6, 24,000, down 46 percent), Katy Perry, Prism (#7, 23,000, down 55 percent), Miley Cyrus, Bangerz (#8, 20,000, down 34 percent), Imagine Dragons, Night Visions (#9, 17,000, down 44 percent) and R. Kelly, Black Panties (#10, 17,000, down 44 percent).

»Katy Perry Gallops Into Songs Lead
Katy Perry had a sales bump for her “Dark Horse” single, as the Juicy J collaboration was up 6 percent to 243,000 to knock Pitbull’s “Timber” out of the top spot. Don’t feel bad for Mr. 305, though, because according to the Billboard Digital Songs tally, “Timber” fell just one spot to #2 (227,000).

The rest of the top 10 featured some light shuffling from songs by A Great Big World, OneRepublic, Eminem and Passenger, while Aloe Blacc’s “The Man” shot up by 191 percent to #7 on sales of 139,000 thanks to a Beats by Dre commercial featuring San Francisco 49ers quarterback Coin Kaepernick that got major play during the NFL playoff games over the weekend.

Lorde’s “Team” made its top 10 debut, moving up five spots to #8 on sales of 125,000. The chart was rounded out by “Frozen” star Menzel’s version of “Let It Go,” which moved up two to #10 on sales of 118,000.
