Love hurts, and it’s a lesson that Big Sean has to learn in his new video for “Ashley,” the latest single from his Hall of Fame LP.
In the cinematic vid, which Sean released to the Internet on Friday (January 31), the G.O.O.D. Music rapper is kidnapped, beaten and forced to dig his own grave at the behest of a psycho couple.
Directed by Ellis Bahl, “Ashley” opens with Sean in a bed with a woman. He soon leaves to head to an underground parking lot where he’s attacked and then abducted. The song is about Sean’s real-life ex-girlfriend, Ashley, though the video isn’t autobiographical é I hope.
The track features Miguel on the hook, but the crooner doesn’t appear in the video. In fact, there are no performance scenes at all, just the Detroit rapper in full character.
While in captivity, Sean is forced to watch his male and female kidnappers have sex as he’s tied to a chair and repeatedly beaten. It’s all pretty sick. The bloodied rap star is eventually able to escape the motel room where he’s being held, only to be shot, recaptured and forced to dig his own grave in the desert.
As the four-minute-plus video fades to black and the music dies down, a single gunshot rings out signifying Sean’s death … though I’m pretty sure he’ll be back.
