‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Trailer: Here’s What You’ll Probably See

The world is about the meet Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, aka the Guardians of the Galaxy, Tuesday (February 18) on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” when the first trailer debuts, but those who have been following the development of Marvel’s unlikely space epic are about to have their patience rewarded.

A new teaser giving a glimpse at the outer space worlds of “Guardians of the Galaxy” just premiered, leaving us to guess what else might appear in the trailer’s other two minutes. Will Thanos finally make an appearance? What will it be like to see Vin Diesel’s voice coming out of a walking tree?

The trailer will be a big opportunity for Marvel to introduce the uninitiated to the crazy world of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but it will also aim to please fans of the beloved comic series. Based on what we’ve seen so far, I have some guesses about what and who might show up in the trailer, so I threw some odds onto each to make this a little more interesting.

Hearing Rocket and Groot Talk – 1 to 10
A sure thing. As awesome as the live-action cast for “Guardians of the Galaxy” is, the film’s two biggest stars, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, only lend their voices to a raccoon and a tree, respectively. Marvel wants to connect with audiences that don’t know the characters and aren’t already convinced that they need to see this movie, so expect the studio to show off their A-list talent.

The Line-Up – 1 to 5
It’s going to happen. The shot from the San Diego Comic-Con footage has already been released as an early still and serves as an appropriate and funny introduction to the team. John C. Reilly as a Nova Corps member, or police cop, runs down the rap sheet of everyone on the team, giving an explanation of who is who, and he also provides more star power. It only makes sense that it would show up in a first look at the movie.

First Look at Ronan the Accuser – 1 to 1
Lee Pace’s character is reportedly the main antagonist of the Guardians, and with it a quick look at one of his associates, Nebula (Karen Gillan), it’s a pretty safe bet to assume the Kree ruler will make an appearance as well. The only thing that might get in the way is Marvel potentially wanting to put early emphasis on the team and not its enemies.

Thanos Makes an Appearance – 20 to 1
Highly unlikely. The only thing we know about the purple-skinned baddie who made a cameo at the end of “The Avengers” is that he’s in this movie. We don’t know who is playing him. We don’t know what role he’ll have in Ronan’s quest for Star-Lord’s orb. It’s all a big mystery, and it seems more and more likely that he’ll be a reveal for later in the film itself.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.
