Kanye West Taps ‘American Psycho’ Author For New Movie

Kanye West is keen on collaboration. Whether it’s working with Rick Rubin on the Yeezus album or with Adidas on new apparel, the College Dropout has long been inspired by the creativity of others. So, for an upcoming film project, ‘Ye tapped none other than “American Psycho” author Bret Easton Ellis to write the screenplay.

“He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus,” famed writer told Vice.com in a recent interview.

“It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f–k it, I said yes,” Ellis explained. “And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.”

The author didn’t go into much detail since, like many of West’s projects, this one is shrouded in mystery. But it makes sense that ‘Ye would collaborate with the “American Psycho” author though. Last year, the two worked on a viral “Psycho”-inspired video, which spoofed the novel and film. (“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Scott Disick played the role of deranged Wall Streeter Patrick Bateman.)

“I wrote it. Kanye came to me and asked me to write it so I wrote the promo,” Ellis told MTV News back in July 2013. “I just got a text one day … it said, ‘It’s Kanye, do you have time to rap?’ And then suddenly my phone rang and someone said, ‘Kanye got your number and he wants you to write this promo for Yeezus,‘ And so we went back and forth on it and he wanted it done, like, that day. So I wrote it very quickly and they shot it two or three days later.”
