If there was one major complaint that a lot of fans had with the first , it was that they heard neither Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon nor Vin Diesel as Groot. Well, just over 24 hours later, Marvel is delivering on one of those wishes.
A new video profile about the gun-toting creature features a snippet of dialogue delivered by Cooper, as well as a short interview with the Oscar nominee.
“This one here is our booty,” Rocket tells a crowd gathered around him in the space prison called the Kyln. Who is their booty, and what does Rocket mean by “booty”? Who can say, but here’s to hoping he means “treasure” and not the other definition.
While the clip doesn’t offer a lot of Cooper as Rocket, it does answer a serious question that many Guardians fans have been asking. In previous portrayals in cartoons, Rocket has spoken with a Scottish accent, which wasn’t something that was ever mentioned in the original comic books. As anyone who watches the new clip can attest, Cooper speaks in an unaffected voice, making the space raccoon definitively American. USA! USA! USA!
Marvel debuting another look at “Guardians of the Galaxy” shortly after the trailer suggests that they won’t be shy about spreading the gospel of their sci-fi epic, and it’s for a good reason. Star-Lord, Rocket, Drax, Gamora and Groot aren’t exactly household names yet, but if the reaction to the trailer is any indication, it won’t be that way for long.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.
