Comic legends such as Steve Martin, John Goodman and Joan Rivers have hosted “Saturday Night Live” over the variety show’s 39 seasons, and on March 8, there will be yet another hosting milestone: the voice of the generation will take center stage. Or at least a voice of a generation.
Lena Dunham, creator and star of HBO’s controversial series “Girls,” is set to grace the stage of Studio 8H in just over a week for her debut as host for “SNL,” Deadline Hollywood reported.
The musical guest for the week is Grammy-nominated The National, also making their debut on the show.
Though Dunham herself hasn’t actually appeared on “SNL” before, she was recently parodied on the show. Cast alum Tina Fey hosted the season opener of “SNL” this year, acting in a sketch spoofing Dunham’s “Girls,” with newcomer Noel Wells playing Dunham’s part, and Fey as Blerta, a girl who’s seen a little more than the wide-eyed youngins of the show.
Dunham, in a tweet, called the razzing a “true honor.”
Today, Dunham tweeted her excitement about being asked to host, and even shared a character she has in mind for the big night.
