Did Katy Perry And John Mayer Break Up?

After two years of on-and-off
dating and a rumored engagement, Katy Perry and John Mayer have reportedly split up.

Citing an unnamed source close to the couple, E! News reported that Perry broke up with guitarist/singer Mayer in the past few days.

At press time no other details were available about the break and spokespeople for Perry had not responded to requests for comment. E! noted that after months of being practically inseparable, Mayer was noticeably absent from Perry’s side when she took a trip to London and Milan recently.

If the news is true, it comes after months of the couple speaking effusively about each other in the press, as well as their collaboration on the song and video for “Who You Love” from Mayer’s Paradise Valley album.

True Love This Time?
In December, Perry gushed about Mayer in a Marie Claire cover story
, intimating that things had gotten very serious again.

“I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me,” she said at the time. “That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, ‘If I don’t do some self-love, I’m not going to be able to keep the love that I want.'” In the piece, she called Mayer a “fantastic partner” and said she’d been a big fan of his for a long time. “He’s got a brilliant, brilliant mind … It’s a rad, mature relationship.”

Getting Intimate In Public
Earlier in the month, the duo released a picture
from their intimate Mario Sorrenti photo shoot for the cover of Mayer’s “Love” single. In another shot Mayer is kissing Perry’s neck in a moment Sorrenti said looks staged but was spontaneous. They got snuggly again in the video
for the song, in which they gaze into each other’s eyes and ride a mechanical bull.

They also appeared together on December 17 for their first joint TV interview, with Mayer telling
host George Stephanopoulos that he didn’t quite know how to handle himself in such a public forum. “You get too close, it’s too touchy feely. And then you get too far, it’s ‘I don’t see chemistry,'” Mayer said.

That same week they also shared a kiss
on stage during one of Mayer’s shows in Brooklyn. They continued the love parade the next day when Perry called their “Love” video
than Kimye’s salacious “Bound 2” clip on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

The couple first began dating in the summer of 2012, but then split and got back together several times before seemingly connecting for the long haul last March. They were last seen in public together on Valentine’s Day, and Perry fueled engagement rumors
last week when she appeared on the red carpet at the Elle Style Awards in London with a large diamond ring on her left hand.
