Could You Listen To Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ For 1,000 Years?

Congratulations, world! You have succeeded in listening to Avicii‘s “Wake Me Up” for what basically amounts to more than 1,500 years. That’s right, the country/techno classic is now the most-played track of all time on Spotify.

According to a release from the music-streaming service, “Wake Me Up” has been streamed more than 200 million times — on average 850,000 times per day. The cities most into the track? That would be Stockholm, Oslo, Gothenburg, London, New York, Madrid, Malmö, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Los Angeles.

200 million is a lot of streams, but it’s also a lot of hours, days and years. The song is about 4 minutes long, so when multiplied by 200 million that’s around 800,000,000 minutes, or 13.3 million hours, around 555,555 days or, finally, roughly 1,500 years.

“Wake Me Up,” off of the musician’s debut record True, was a surprise hit for Avicci. A collaboration between the DJ/producer and Incubus’ Mike Einziger and Aloe Blacc, the song brought a kind of country twang into the realm of EDM. It was a genre crossover. Something entirely new.

“It all started with me and Mike Einziger from Incubus kind of playing around together in his studio in Malibu, and melodically we wrote the whole song, but we hadn’t put any words to it,” Avicii, a.k.a. Tim Bergling told MTV News. “I was working with Aloe Blacc on another project, and so I called him in and he kind of threw down some lyrics that he had written for something else, and he adapted it to this, and so he was in and out in a couple of hours.”

When the musician performed the out-there track at the Ultra Music Festival he became their first EDM act ever to perform with live instruments. Soon after, the song became a #1 hit.

“It’s amazing to see the journey… you love everything you make, or else you wouldn’t make it,” he said. “There was a lot of thought behind it, but it was a huge surprise to everyone.”

Well, obviously Avicii isn’t the only one who loves the track —it’s likely playing somewhere, out there, right this very moment. And, if it’s not, it could be below:
