Revenge is a dish best served cold or, in the case of Fox’s upcoming comedy, “The Other Woman,” with a heaping helping of Nicki Minaj.
In a special preview clip released Wednesday (March 19), the Queen Barb shows off her comedic chops as Lydia, Cameron Diaz’s rather opinionated secretary at a law firm.
The one-minute scene begins with an incensed Diaz thrashing about her office, disheartened and hurt after learning that her new boyfriend has a wife. Unfazed, the Pink Print MC delivers her punchline with convincing concern.
“And you don’t think you can take her?” she asks.
Diaz doesn’t “do” married men, but Minaj’s Lydia, who met her third husband when both of them were still married, cautions her about being negative about the prospects of beginning a relationship as a jumpoff.
“All I’m saying is that married guys would be the perfect fit for you,” Nicki says. “I think you need someone with something that’s gonna keep ’em busy.”
Dressed like she just stepped off the runway, Minaj then turns to exit with a flourish, but not before imparting more relationship wisdom, this time from Mama Lydia.
“I’ll tell you what my mother told me, and these are words to live by: Selfish people live longer,” she said.
Minaj is definitely in her element in her first live-action film role (she previously voiced a computer-generated wooly mammoth in “Ice Age: Continental Drift”), playing the sassy yet sophisticated co-star. Director Nick Cassavetes even let her bring bits of her real personality to the role as she rocks the finest wares and wigs, donning bone-straight tresses in the preview, while switching it up to blonde in the official trailer.
The film itself centers around Diaz, who in a bizarre twist, befriends and teams up with her former lover’s wife (Leslie Mann) and additional mistress (Kate Upton) to exact vengeance on their three-timing paramour.
The movie’s likely to rack up the laughs and thrust Nicki Minaj onto Hollywood’s radar, where she’ll definitely get the chance to dive wig first into her first love: acting.
As for Minaj’s co-stars, Diaz, Mann and Upton were just recently announced as presenters at the MTV Movie Awards, which are going down at 9 p.m. on April 13 and will be hosted by Conan O’Brien.
