Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: the soundtrack is the #1 album in country.
Yes, for the second-consecutive week (and seventh week overall), the ‘track to Disney’s record-setting smash sits atop the Billboard albums chart, selling nearly 202,000 copies — its biggest number to date — thanks to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
And while “Frozen’s” icy grip on the Top 200 has been impressive, much like the NYC weather, it might not be thawing out any time soon: This week alone, the soundtrack not only beat out four debut albums to claim the #1 spot … it sold more copies than all of them combined.
Olaf Ices Out The Competition
Yes, the rest of next week’s top five is made up of new albums: YG‘s My Krazy Life opens at #2, selling nearly 61,000 copies, Foster The People‘s Supermodel bows at #3 with sales of 54,000 copies, Skrillex‘s surprise Recess comes in at #4 with sales of nearly 47,000 copies, and the Pretty Reckless‘ Going To Hell debuts at #5, with sales of 35,000 copies.
All solid first-week numbers, yet after crunching the numbers, the rest of the top five still came up nearly 5,000 copies short of matching “Frozen’s” sales … and that’s been on the charts for 17 weeks now. Bow down to the Elsa and the singing snowman.
Pharrell, Rozay Hang Tough In The Top 10
The second-half of the Billboard top 10 opens with Pharrell’s G I R L at #6, with sales of 34,000 copies and Rick Ross’ Mastermind — the last album to unseat “Frozen” atop the charts — at #7, selling 27,000 copies.
Enrique Iglesias’ Sex and Love debuts at #8, selling nearly 24,000 copies, followed by Lorde’s Pure Heroine at #9 (more than 23,000 copies sold) and Taking Back Sunday’s latest, Happiness Is, which bows at #10 with sales of more than 22,000 copies.
“Happy” Tops Digital, But Prepare To “Let It Go”
Hey, speaking of happiness … Pharrell’s “Happy” continues its dominance of the Billboard Digital Songs Chart — it’s also #1 iTunes — selling 370,000 downloads.
John Legend’s “All of Me” and Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” hold steady at #2 and #3, selling 224,000 and 188,000 downloads, respectively.
“Frozen’s” reach extends to this chart, too, as Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” jumps up to #4 with sales of 167,000 downloads, moving past Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” (down to #5). Aloe Blacc’s “The Man” rises to #6, followed by the Chainsmokers’ slowly descending “#SELFIE” at #7, Bastille’s “Pompeii” at #8 and DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” at #9. Florida Georgia Line snag their second top 10 hit on the Digital chart, as “This Is How We Roll” moves up to #10.
