Exclusive: Don Johnson Returns to ‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’

If you were missing Don Johnson’s character Earl McGraw in “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,” then good news: This week’s episode, “Let’s Get Ramblin,’ ” has got an extra helping of the tough-as-nails Texas lawman.

Adding to the surprising return: Johnson’s character was believed to be dead at the end of the series premiere. So how, exactly, does McGraw return?

Though we won’t give too much away, Johnson is back for at least part of the episode via flashbacks to help his partner, Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia) follow the trail of the murderous Gecko brothers Seth and Richie (D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz). The episode is directed by series creator Robert Rodriguez.

With the Geckos planning out their next move in the hopes of getting across the border — and out of the reach of one ticked-off lawman — Freddie’s having flashbacks to a deadly shootout where Ranger McGraw gets to show why bad guys should be scared of Johnson’s character.

It’s here where we also learn about Freddie’s fear of blood, which might pose a big problem when the series gets around to its strip club full of vampires.

It’s all part of a set of mysterious visions that both Freddie and the dangerously unbalanced Richie are suffering from, leading the lawman and the criminals on a collision course with one another at a seedy motel. There, the poor Fuller family will find themselves forced to help a pair of desperate criminals across the border.

Speaking of the Fullers, young Kate (Madison Davenport) may have just discovered something odd about her mother’s death as well as her father’s — disgraced preacher Jacob (Robert Patrick) — involvement.

Don Johnson’s big return on “From Dusk Till Dawn” airs Tuesday, April 1 at 9 p.m. ET on the El Rey Network.
