Ed Sheeran Serenades Teenage Fan Moments Before Her Death

Ed Sheeran granted one final wish for one of his biggest fans.

Triona Priestley, a 15-year-old from Dublin, lost her long battle with cystic fibrosis on Tuesday (April 1) only minutes after Sheeran called her up to serenade her over the phone with her favorite song, “Little Bird.”

On the day of her tragic death, Sheeran tweeted, “Rest in peace Triona, so heartbreaking.”

The touching interaction between the British singer and Triona all became possible through a Twitter campaign. After her health took a turn for the worse, friends began tweeting at Sheeran to make their friends dream come true, with the hashtag #SongForTri, which eventually started trending. Thousands attempted to reach out to Sheeran, whose management then contacted Priestley’s friend, Lucy Hanlon, to arrange the call between the two.

“As we all know about the Twitter campaign, Ed’s manager Stuart Camp emailed me and today Ed rang Triona and personally sang ‘Little Bird’ to her as she took her last breaths,” Hanlon wrote on her Facebook page according to the Daily Mail. “Triona left us listening to her idol surrounded by all the people who loved her.”

Following her death, Triona’s brother Colm spoke with the Independent.ie thanking Sheeran, and all those who helped make her final wish possible.

“What they gave us and her was a beautiful last moment together. Triona slipped into a sleep as Ed was singing to her and passed away shortly afterwards,” he said. “So Ed Sheeran sang her to sleep. We would like to thank everyone who played their part in making that happen.”
