How well do the stars of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” know the Marvel Universe? Not as well as you think, as MTV News found out when they sat down for our MTV Movie Awards Takeover.
First up is a question that — to be fair — flummoxes even the most diehard of comic book fans: what does S.H.I.E.L.D. stand for?
Even Samuel L. Jackson, the head of the international spy organization himself, couldn’t get the answer right. “I don’t need to know that, I’m in charge!” Jackson quipped.
That said, he didn’t do as poorly as Anthony Mackie, who got every letter wrong. Probably on purpose. Closest were Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson with, er, two correct. Maybe it’s time for a simpler name, Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
Jackson didn’t do much better when asked what the “J” stood for in his character’s name, Nicholas J. Fury, though he did know exactly where Thor was from: Asgard.
“Only because it’s got ass in it,” Jackson said. “That’s why I remember it.”
Lastly, Scarlett Johansson gave her best, “Hulk smash!” impression, which she joked only happens after, “a few shots of tequila.” Not while you’re pregnant, Scarlett!
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is in theaters now. Stay tuned to MTV throughout the week for more Movie Awards Takeover.
