Ed Sheeran Drops ‘F–king Amazing’ New Single, ‘Sing’: Listen Here

On his new single, Ed Sheeran begs the question, “Can you feel it?” Well, yes, we definitely can.

The British singer dropped his highly anticipated new song, “Sing,” on Radio 1 with Zane Lowe, and while it’s a total departure from what his Sheerios might be used to, many are completely in love.

The track, for which Sheeran hooked up with one of the hottest producers in the business, Pharrell, has him setting aside the strict acoustic sound, for an uptempo R&B jam that has the singer showing off his vocals and an extremely impressive falsetto.

“I need you darling, come on set the tone/ If you feel you’re fallin’, won’t you let me know/ Oh oh oh/ If you love me, come on get involved/ Feel it rush in through you from your head to toe,” Ed sings on the track.

Throughout the song, Ed commands the audience to “sing,” and sing “louder,” as he croons about wanting a woman that he’s clearly interested in, to let him know if she feels the same.During a Google hangout Q&A, which had Sheeran show off some new tattoos, he said that the song was about “a night out in Vegas.”

“The reason I chose this song to be the first single is, I think if I put out an acoustic ballad first, everyone would be like ‘ehh, it’s alright,'” Ed told Lowe. “But with this, you get people who are either going to love it or going to hate it, but at least they’re going to be talking about it.”

And fans are definitely talking about it, and not surprisingly, many absolutely love it, taking to Twitter to deem the new single “perfect,” “marvelous,” “f—ing amazing” and “sex to my ears.”

The new track, the first single off Sheeran’s upcoming sophomore album, X (as in “multiply”) certainly is a bit reminiscent of Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds era, which is not a coincidence.

Ed is featured on the cover of Billboard magazine, and he talks about being inspired by JT: “It was pretty close to a direct inspiration,” he said. “I love Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds, so I took inspiration from those.”

However, Sheeran, who said this was the “best music” he’s ever made, was initially hesitant to record “Sing” with Pharrell, since this was the first time he worked with a pre-existing track.

“He was like, ‘Nah, I love it, but it’s not for me,'” Pharrell told Billboard. “And I said, ‘Just give me a shot. Pick up your guitar and strum along with it for a little bit, and see what happens.’ So, after figuring out the chords that I had laid down, in between jokes and people coming in with coffee, he kept playing it, and he looked up at me, like, ‘Sh–, is this really happening?’ as I’m looking at him with an ‘I told you so’ smile. Thirty minutes later, the song was pretty much finished.”
