50 Cent and Fat Joe put a lengthy beef behind them a few years ago, but the full olive branch arrived in January with their collaboration on DJ Kay Slay’s song “Free Again.” Now 50’s giving the rundown on how he and his former foe finally shared a track.
“Kay came and he was like, ‘Yo, I got this record, Joe did it,'” Fif told DJ Drama. “He played it and I was like, ‘OK, OK, I see what he’s doing.'”
50 said he liked the approach that Joe was taking. Having just been released from prison in November after serving a few months for tax evasion, the Bronx MC was giving fans his story.
“He wrote himself the jail experience that he was just going through,” the Queens rapper continued. “What I really liked about the record is it was about his actual experience.”
After hearing how Joe attacked the joint, Fif wanted to bring a “different perspective” but still stay true to his reality. What that meant, of course, was that 50’s aggressive, energetic content was front and center on his verse.
50 didn’t say whether there would be more collaborations on the way, but from the sound of their chemistry, that wouldn’t be the worst idea. Either way, both have new music in the works.
Fat Joe seems steadily focused on making his musical return now that he is indeed free again. Earlier today (April 7), he released a new track, “Another Day,” featuring French Montana, Rick Ross and Tiara Thomas.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent’s fifth solo album, Animal Ambition, hits stores June 3.
