Earlier this year, Drake showed off his hosting capabilities on “Saturday Night Live.” In July, he’ll be moving from comedy to sports, as the rapper has been tapped to host this year’s ESPYs.
“Honored to be this year’s @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014 #ESPYS #NWTS,” Drizzy wrote on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.
The official account of the annual awards show was excited to welcome the rap star.
This will be the 22nd time ESPN has aired the ESPYs, which honors athletes and teams for their athletic performances over the past year. Past hosts include Justin Timberlake, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Samuel L. Jackson.
Drake has long presented himself as an avid sports fan. From his athlete lyrical references to his spot announcing the starting lineup for his hometown Toronto Raptors to his more recent pep talk to the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team, Drizzy is immersed in the world of sports.
Back in January, Drake stole the show on “SNL,” as he rapped in his opening monologue, starred in a number of skits and also served as the musical guest for the night. We’ll have to wait and see what he has in store for his gig this summer.
