By many measures, Rick Ross has had a lengthy and successful rap career. But there’s still one thing that he’s chasing.
“Just executing that platinum album out the gate,” Rozay told DJ Skee when asked what he felt was missing. “Six gold albums. And, really, my first album, I believe they said it’s maybe 20,000 records from being certified platinum.”
Ross’ latest disc, Mastermind, was released in early March. The album sold 179,000 copies in its first week, and has moved 290,000 units to date. His previous album, 2012’s God Forgives, I Don’t, was certified gold — just like his previous four. But that’s not enough.
“I just feel like it’s still sh– I gotta do,” he said. “In that moment, I just wanna execute one of those joints. I think that most definitely [would] be something that’s real cool.”
Beyond his musical goals, the rapper is ready to expand his business empire, including his recently formed Maybach Films. “We just finished writing our first film,” he said. “We’ll be giving you a lot more details about it real soon, but we just putting the final touches on this movie, which we plan on filming before the year’s out. So, you can expect it early next year… I think this gonna be a game-changer.”
