As you already, obviously, know, the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien are this Sunday, April 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. You may also know that the seventh season of “Mad Men” debuts at 10 p.m. on the same night.
This made my recent chat with Jon Hamm a little awkward.
The star of the upcoming true-life sports movie, “Million Dollar Arm,” explained that there was no need for any kind of standoff, thanks to DVR. He did, however, pick his own show over the MTV Movie Awards, which is some questionable judgment if you ask me.
“I would like to remind your viewers that there are things called DVRs,” he said. “You should record the MTV Movie Awards, watch ‘Mad Men’ live and then go back.”
Hamm explained that his own bias wasn’t what drove his decision. He said that DVR lets you watch the show in a more digestible way, with less of his “friend,” Conan.
“Number one, you’re going to want to fast forward through Conan,” he said. “Let’s be honest. You want to see the popcorn handed out. That’s what you want.”
But does Jon Hamm ever see himself earning another nomination after his brush with the Best On-Screen Dirtbag award in 2012? He doesn’t think so.
“There is no world in which I’m winning Best Shirtless anything,” he said. “I’m not a vampire, and I’m not a zombie and I’m not Kristen Stewart or Jennifer Lawrence. I’m not those four things, so I won’t be winning Best Kiss. If there was a category called Best Guy Who Kind of Reminds You of Your Dad. I would maybe win that one.”
