Bas Gives Two Weeks Notice With Surprise EP

J. Cole’s first Dreamville signee, Bas, is prepping his new project Last Winter for release at the end of April, but on Tuesday evening the Queens rapper dropped the surprise EP Two Weeks Notice.

The new six-track project features some original production, in addition to freestyles over popular beats like Future’s “Move That Dope,” Pharrell’s “Happy” and Soulja Boy’s “We Made It.”

“We Made It” has already gotten remixes from Drake, Jay Z and Jay Electronica, but Bas wanted to add a bit of his story too.

In his freestyle, the Paris-born rapper recalls a few career highlights, including J.Cole playing his mixtape for Salaam Remi, getting love from No I.D. and Dreamville Records’ signing with Interscope.

“Shout out to Dion, he tried to put me on, I mean it, I’m gracious/ But we had a dream, build a home for the team, so man we couldn’t take it,” Bas spits. “But just a year later man, Cole hit me up and said Interscope paid us/ I asked how much? And he was like n—a we made it.”

Bas’ upcoming project, Last Winter, will be available digitally on April 29. The album’s name was inspired by some chilly recording sessions.

“Ced Brown and I would be recording in my basement and it’s cold and we’re broke,” Bas explained. “When we would make a hot record, we would look at each other and say ‘last winter,’ like ‘this is our last winter. We are not going to be living like this anymore. We’re going to elevate our situation.’ It became a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
