Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’ Isn’t Dead Yet

It’s not too late for

Over the weekend, writer and director Quentin Tarantino teamed together with a slew of actors for a live reading of his “Hateful Eight” script, at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The three and a half hour reading (formally titled “Film Independent Presents the World Premiere of a Staged Reading by Quentin Tarantino: ‘The Hateful Eight,'” an appropriate mouthful for such a big occasion) was a one-time only event, performed by Tarantino veterans including Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell.

Even Bruce Dern, who was earmarked for a role before the infamous , was on hand for the reading.

Deadline reports that there were “several standing ovations” throughout the reading of Tarantino’s “sometimes laconic, sometimes sardonic and often violently profane” screenplay. Further, it sounds as if the Western epic isn’t as dead in the water as once believed. Following the leak of the “Hateful Eight” screenplay, a betrayed Tarantino said he would no longer be making the movie. Now, it appears things have changed.

“I’m working on a second draft and I will do a third draft, but we’re reading from the first draft,” Tarantino told the crowd. “The Chapter 5 here will not be the Chapter 5 later, so this will be the only time it is seen ever.”

It sounds like time has healed some of the wounds Tarantino suffered during the “Hateful Eight” script leak. It remains to be seen if the Western will be his next film, or if he ever makes the movie at all. For now, it certainly appears that he’s still actively interested in the subject matter — and that’s as strong a sign as any for anyone still dying to see “Hateful Eight” come to life.

Do you still want Tarantino to make “The Hateful Eight,” or have you lost interest in the project?
