Chance The Rapper Reveals Why He’s Missing A Bunch Of Shows

Over the weekend, Chance the Rapper was forced to cancel his set at Coachella due to a medical emergency. Details were initially scarce, but on Tuesday night, his management posted an update on the rapper’s status.

“Last Friday, April 18, 2014, Chancelor Bennett PKA Chance The Rapper came down with a high fever and was experiencing difficulty breathing,” said a posted on the rapper’s Twitter and signed by his manager Patrick Corcoran. It says the Chicago native then went to his Los Angeles home, where he planned to rest until his show on Sunday.

“Upon rising Sunday morning, Chance was running a 104 degree fever and could not speak due to the inflammation of his throat,” the statement continued. “He was rushed to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital where he was put on an IV drip & medicines were introduced to help control his body temperature & pain caused by his illness.”

That morning, a photo of him in the hospital, which has since been removed, was posted to his Instagram account.

As grim as the description of his condition sounds, the 21-year-old is apparently on the mend. The release confirms that he is once again resting at home, and that doctors believe it was “a combination of the flu virus and tonsillitis” that caused the illness. Chance is scheduled to see a specialist this week.

On Monday, the rapper seemed optimistic about the likelihood that he would perform at his upcoming shows later this week.

However, the statement confirms that Chance’s shows through April 27 have been cancelled.

He’s next slated to perform at JMBLYA in Dallas on May 2.
