Whether she’s by her husband’s side on a red carpet or being dubbed one-third of Rihanna’s #FamCrush, Pharrell’s wife, Helen Lasichanh, has gotten quite a bit of media attention of late. And though the model/fashion designer tied the knot with the 41-year-old super-producer in October, the video for his new single, “Marilyn Monroe,” gives us reason to believe she might need to keep her man on a short leash.
When MTV News caught up with Pharrell Tuesday night at the TIME 100 Gala in New York City, however, the “Happy” singer admitted that, yes, he likes “all kinds of girls,” but his admiration for the ladies isn’t the only message to be taken away from the vid.
“You don’t have to live your life trying to fit into a box or a category or a classification that this statuesque standard of what beauty is in America, and around the world essentially; [it] needs to be addressed,” he said. “Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. There’s a parallel in nature with, like, snowflakes and humans: Both can be cool but there’s none that are the same. Even identical twins, you know [aren’t the same], so the beauty, to me, is the difference in people.”
