Drake takes Throwback Thursday very seriously, and that’s obvious since he took the time to post multiple childhood photos this week, including a rare shot with mom and dad and one that proves he’s been getting at the ladies before he was even tall enough to ride a roller coaster. Since the Toronto rapper usually pours his heart out in records, we figured that it’d be easy enough to caption his #TBT photos with a few of his lyrics.
“What’s My Name?”
Apparently Drake’s been hitting on girls for as long as he can remember, captioning this photo, “Always been at it.” But we think his verse on Rihanna’s single “What’s My Name?” says it even better.
“I heard you good with them soft lips/ Yeah, you know, word of mouth. Let it play, say you gotta leave/ But i know you wanna stay.”
“Look What You’ve Done”
Drake dedicated this song to his mom, rapping about her struggles with health and money and the strain it put on their relationship. Things worked out all good in the end though.
“Look what you’ve done for me now, you knew that I was gonna be something/ When you’re stressed out and you need something, I got you,” he sings on the hook. “Look what you’ve done, look what you’ve done.”
“The Calm”
Drake included a rare photo of his parents, who divorced when he was about 5 years old. Though he recently patched up things with his father, he’s revealed in many tracks that they’ve had a strained relationship. In the photo below, Drake’s dad can be seen smoking a cigarette, giving us flashbacks to “The Calm.”
“Hoping Western Union doing currency exchange, cause my dad called and got me feeling guilty and ashamed/ Like, how I had a Rolls and I went and got a Range, and he paying for his cigarettes with dollars and some change.”
“The Winner”
Drake’s love for his late grandmother (or his “Bubbe”) runs deep and he’s made several references to her over the course of his projects. On “Look What You’ve Done” he even included a voicemail from Evelyn Sher, and on “The Winner,” he raps:
“Yeah, and in the name of Evelyn Sher, I’ll forever forgive anybody that never was there/ For me, no other woman could ever compare/ My angel I hope heaven’s prepared for whenever you there.”
