You And Joe Biden Can Listen To ‘Drops Of Jupiter’ Together This National Train Day

May 10 doesn’t just mark a spring, non-Cinco de Mayo Saturday for you to enjoy margaritas. No, this year, May 10 marks National Train Day.

Established all the way back in 2008 by Amtrak, the holiday (non-federal) is meant to raise appreciation and awareness of rail travel among Americans. Why is it in May, you may ask? Well, Virginia, that would be because on May 10, 1869, the Golden Spike was hammered in Promontory, Utah, marking the official completion of the first transcontinental railroad system. As such, the Saturday closest to May 10 gets the honor of being National Train Day for the year.

But while Vice President Joe Biden may be psyched about traveling by train, we’d rather observe the holiday by contemplating the greatest hits of the soft rock band Train. More specifically, let’s all sit back, relax and listen to what is undoubtedly the very greatest Train song of all time, “Drops of Jupiter.”

Those of you who are like, “but ‘Meet Virginia’! And what about ‘Soul Sister’?” That’s enough from you. Any song that name-drops soy lattes, deep-fried chicken and tae bo is clearly the king.

But, like, can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken? Can you?

In addition to being a fantastic choice for any group sing-along, as well as a masterpiece with a range of lyrics that would be perfect for the margins of any middle school love notes you may need to write, “Drops of Jupiter” has transcended its four minutes-ish of 1998 goodness and breached the world of art.

Why not get your sweetheart some Train-themed wine charms this National Train Day? Perhaps a piece of fine jewelry? A tasteful piece of wall art for your pal?

The atmosphere, as they say, is your oyster.

So happy National Train Day, everyone. After you work on your spring-listening and June-talking, grab a soy latte, and make sure it’s the best you’ve ever had. Toot, toot.
