Pack your bags, we’re headed to Florence.
Well, not us exactly, but Kim and Kanye are. After months of teasing that the Kardashian/West wedding would take place in Paris, the couple have apparently decided to forgo those plans and tie the knot at Florence’s 16th-century Belvedere Fort On Saturday, May 24.
Elisa Di Lupa, a spokeswoman from Florence’s mayor’s office, confirmed the news in a statement on Friday (May 16), adding that the couple rented the venue for €300,000 ($410,000) and a Protestant minister will preside over the ceremony.
The fort, which was built in 1590 for the ruling Medici family, is known for its panoramic views of Florence and the surrounding Tuscan hills. The venue was closed for five years for renovation, and only reopened its doors in 2013.
In an interview published on Friday in Florence’s La Nazione newspaper, Kanye said he was “very excited” and “very happy” about his upcoming wedding.
“I adore Florence,” he shared. “I love Italy and the Italian lifestyle. To tell you the truth, I already came to the banks of the Arno [river] with Kim last year, just the two of us, incognito.”
He continued, “I think that our daughter North was conceived here among the Renaissance masterpieces. It was our first honeymoon. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, for me the most beautiful in Europe.”
But Kimye may not have counted out Paris completely. Entertainment Tonight is reporting that the festivities will begin with a dinner in the City of Lights, where guests will then be flown on private planes to the fort in Florence.
Unfortunately for all of us that didn’t get the invite, we won’t get to sit in on the wedding of the year, which is said to have a “very small and intimate” guest list. North West’s parents have decided not to film the wedding for the upcoming season of E!’s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” But the bride-to-be did promise that photos would likely surface.
