Check Out Devonte Hynes’ Bummer-tastic ‘Palo Alto’ Track

Get your dark ‘n’ twisted teenage angst on Monday (June 2) with a new track from James Franco’s “Palo Alto” soundtrack, courtesy of Devonté Hynes.

The soundtrack for the film — featuring Hynes’ first-ever score — is out today digitally and physically on August 5, with Hynes’ single “April’s Bathroom Bummer” streaming right now.

Replete with tense percussion and plaintive horns, the jam is reminiscent of Air’s soundtrack for “The Virgin Suicides,” evoking a kind of desperate-yet-mystical sadness. Hynes wrote and performed the entire score for the film, which is based on a series of linked stories by James Franco in which a teenage girl (Emma Roberts) begins an illicit affair with her soccer coach (Franco).

The soundtrack also includes tracks from Robert Schwartzman (Rooney), Coconut Records (Jason Schwartzman) and Nat & Alex Wolff, one half of which — Nat — also appears in the Gia Coppola-directed film.
