Are Zac Efron And ‘Catfish’ Star Max Joseph Teaming Up For A New Flick?

Today in “parents just don’t understand” news: Zac Efron is in negotiations to play an EDM noob in “Catfish” sleuth Max Joseph‘s Untitled DJ project, reports The Wrap.

This will be Joseph’s first time helming a feature-length film, but he’s directed over 60 short films and commercials — one of them being “DFA Records: Too Old to Be New, Too New to Be Classic,” a short doc on the record label that houses major electronic dance acts like LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost! and Hot Chip. So basically, he’s familiar with the subject.

As for Efron, he’s fresh off his seamless transition into more adult roles after a well-received performance in “Neighbors,” and we can definitely see him as a struggling DJ-wannabe navigating the treacherous waters of the EDM world. He just has that look — you know, the look of that guy in the neon tank-top (or no shirt at all) with a matching glow stick and sunglasses/sweatband set at the Electric Daisy Carnival.

Meaghan Oppenheimer co-wrote the film with Joseph, and Working Title is set to produce. Shooting is slated to begin next month in Los Angeles, where Joseph is currently auditioning young actors for supporting roles.
