Miss ‘Sherlock’? Keep Waiting Til Christmas 2015

Cue up the super-sad Charlie Brown Christmas special song, because we’re about to have a long, cold winter. And summer’s not even over yet. That’s how long the winter is going to be.

Thanks, Martin Freeman.

The actor, who portrays Dr. John Watson on the rare occasions that the BBC decides to actually give fans new episodes of the critically acclaimed series “Sherlock,” managed to pull a real doozy of a trick in the press, both giving hope and snatching it away in the same movement.

The good doctor, in an interview with the Telegraph, alluded to possible early 2015 shooting on the show.

As in, like. A year from now.

“If that’s going to be a special – I’m speaking off-message here; if this was New Labour I’d get fired – I think that might be for next Christmas,” he said. “A Christmas special. That’s what I understand.”

Well, isn’t that just special.

Oh, and, uh, hope you don’t like Watson’s new bride, Mary. Because she may not be around too much longer. While Amanda Abbington, Freeman’s real-life wife who plays Watson’s wife Mary on the show, will be back for more episodes, it’s hard to say how long that will last.

“While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did,” Freeman said. “So he [Watson] gets married, and then Mary dies – so at some point presumably she’ll die.”

Gasp!
