A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’: Go Behind The Star-Crossed Scenes

Long-distance relationships are never easy. A Great Big World are well aware of that fact, judging from their video for “Already Home.”

MTV News went behind the scenes of Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino’s latest video, the second off their debut album Is There Anybody Out There, which was filmed in downtown Los Angeles.

The duo reached out to their friends Darren Criss (“Glee”) Jessica Szohr (“Gossip Girl”) to play a couple who are trying to make their long-distance relationship work. But that’s not the only Hollywood connection to the music video.

“The concept of the video has a ‘500 Days of Summer’ vibe,” Vaccarino said of the clip.

Through a series of split-screens we see the bi-coastal couple taking walks or watching television together, but we realize they are actually hundreds of miles away.

“We wanted to tell the story in a way that was kind of unique and clever, but still had a lot of heart,” Axel told MTV News.

A Great Big World broke through last year following their tear-jerking single “Say Something” featuring Christina Aguilera, but their newest single has been long in the works.

“Chad and I actually wrote ‘Already Home’ seven years ago,” Axel said. “It was one of the first songs we ever wrote together.”

“We wrote it about someone being on the road forever and never actually being at home,” Vaccarino added. “It’s so relevant to us now because that’s what it feels like.”
