Adam Levine has been described as a lot of things: Maroon 5 frontman, Sexiest Man Alive, coach on “The Voice” and… a douchebag.
That’s right, Adam a.k.a. “hot douche,” hasn’t gotten the best rap over the years, mainly because of the questionable things he has said, but he promises he’s really not that bad…he thinks.
“Would it be really easy to assume that I was a douchebag?” he told GQ magazine. “Definitely. One hundred percent. But that doesn’t mean that I am.” He thinks for a minute. “Or maybe I am, I don’t know.”
To truly get to the bottom of it, Adam asked himself the hard questions, “to find out, once and for all, definitively, whether or not I’m a douchebag.”
Adam argues that there are three ways to tell if you are a douchebag: lack of self-awareness, conceitedness and insecurity.
“I’m not arrogant,” he protests. “I’m cocky. It’s different. Cocky is playful…” he said. “I’m confident. Some people don’t like confidence. They resent confidence.”
He continued, “You know what the gist of this article is?” he asks. “Your opening line can be: ‘You don’t have to like me, but I’d prefer it if you did.’ That’s kind of how I feel. I’m not the easiest person to love right off the bat, you know. If I knew everyone in the world, they would love me. Every single last f–king one of them.”
To further prove that Adam, who just released “Maps” with Maroon 5 for their upcoming fifth album, is not a terrible person, he admitted that, despite reports, he never called any of his ex-girlfriends to apologize for his bad behavior.
“I did not say that. That was total fabrication. I’d like to clear the record right now. I totally did not do that. That was a very surprising thing to have heard come out…” Adam told Howard Stern during an interview. “It’s so selfish and arrogant to call. ‘Sorry, it didn’t work out between us because you weren’t good enough for me.’ It’s kinda f–ked up to do that actually.”
“The Voice” coach is reportedly set to tie the knot with fiancé Behati Prinsloo on July 19 in Mexico.
