As reported May 30, Marvel was rumored to have the directing choice for their upcoming movie “Ant-Man” down to a list of three. And now, as broken by Ain’t It Cool News, and confirmed by Variety, your new “Ant-Man” director is Adam McKay.
It’s been a week since Edgar Wright, who had been working on writing and directing the movie for nearly a decade, stepped down as director of the project. Since then, the press has been in a frenzy, speculating wildly as to why the fan-friendly creator left the project — not to mention who his replacement might be.
…And now we know! McKay is well known as a comedy director for movies like “Anchorman,” and is also clearly a comic book fan: he’s been working on developing the series “The Boys” to film for years. Though the ink hasn’t dried on the deal — Variety characterizes the deal as “in advanced talks” — it looks like we’ll be getting McKay teamed back up with his “Anchorman” star Paul Rudd, who will be front and center as the titular hero.
“Ant-Man” is still currently on schedule to be released on July 17, 2015. It also stars Michael Douglas as a different iteration of the size-changing hero. Stay tuned to MTV News, as we’ll have more updates as they happen.
