If Peter Parker thought the Lizard was bad, wait until he gets a load of Electro.
The electrically-charged Max Dillon is at the heart of a new viral video for director Marc Webb’s sequel to last summer’s “Spider-Man” reboot. Oscar winner Jamie Foxx stars in the superhero movie as the blue-hued bad guy — and after seeing him in round after round of promotional images, we’re now seeing the man in action.
“I can feel it in the walls. I can feel it in my veins,” Foxx’s villain drones in the video, his voice deep and soaked in pain, almost to the point that you can’t understand what he’s saying. “No matter what you do, you can’t contain it.”
The camera pans over various pieces of lab equipment and wires. Ultimately, the shot pulls back to reveal Electro strapped in a mechanical harness, eyes closed, as if he’s just transformed into his terrifying and electrifying new persona.
“You want to know how powerful I am? Well, I want to know, too,” he growls. “I’m Electro.”
The video ends with the words “Electro arrives,” and the promise of more information at the “Amazing Spider-Man 2” panel at Comic-Con’s Hall H on Friday (July 19).
In previous interviews with MTV News, Foxx has explained that Electro isn’t just a murderous mastermind. He starts out as Max Dillon, a geeky scientist with terrible hair and no recognition for his scientific genius. His confidence gets a boost when he first encounters Spider-Man.
“Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy. You’re my eyes and ears on the street.’ And he says his name – no one has ever said Dillon’s name,” said Foxx. “He sort of starts thinking that somehow, he’s Spider-Man’s partner.”
That misunderstanding puts Dillon on the irreversible road to becoming Electro — and once that transformation is complete, the sparks start to fly.
“What I wanted to bring, we all decided was, we wanted to make Electro a formidable opponent,” said Foxx. “Meaning, we want him to really, really not like Spider-Man.”
Electro arrives at San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow, and emerges in his full glory when “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
